Review of ‘Mind the Game’ Escape Room

Imagine the scene. Your boyfriend presents you with your Christmas present. It’s in an envelope. You think… “ooo, what could this be? A weekend away? Dinner at a posh restaurant? Vouchers maybe?” You then open said envelope and in it contains an invitation to an “Escape Room” experience. My immediate reaction cannot be expressed. The edited reaction to my boyfriend is “oh thanks! But what is it exactly?”

For those who are not familiar with the concept, an escape room is a problem solving/physical adventure game, where players are locked in a room and have to solve a series of puzzles to escape within a specific timeframe. Basically, it’s a longer version of a 3 minute Crystal Maze game.

I tried to remain open-minded and invited my sister and her boyfriend along to share the burden of pretending to enjoy myself.

We arrive at the location on Willesden Lane, Kilburn. Not the most glamorous of facades. The thought does cross my mind as to whether this “Mind the Game” is a complete set-up and we are about to enter a hostage situation.

Thankfully, on arrival we are greeted by an incredibly friendly host who makes us feel instantly welcome whilst running us through the rules. After a bit more chit chat we enter the Escape Room. One hour later, I am pleased to tell you that we left the Escape Room. Not only did we leave as victors, but also with a giddy sense of achievement, having just spent the last hour running around like headless chickens and howling with laughter as we try to solve clues under time pressure.

If you’re looking for something a bit different do to this weekend with friends or family, I cannot recommend this escape room enough! I will certainly be trying out some more.
